The Programmes I Actually Use

Not all programmes are relevant to every blog. Here’s the one I used the most
Booking.com — This is my most used programme. I link to Booking.com in all my destination guides. Average commission per booking sits around $15. You get 4% on average from every booking made.
GetYourGuide — for tours and experiences. These convert well in destination guides and itinerary posts where people are actively in planning mode. For GetYourGuide, the reward rate is 8% and the cookie lifetime is 31 days which is very useful especially during high seasonal bookings like summer period.
Trip.com — if you have a lot of Asian destinations, this affiliate converts well for me. For a lot of people, they mentioned it is pretty low in value like activities which is 3.6% but for hotels it is 5.5% and has a 30 day cookie value.
12go — Good for transportation options in Asia but not a high commission structure as they offer 5.5% reward rate. It works well based on volume and for posts such as “how to go from one destination to another”.
Kiwi — flights. Lower conversion rate for me personally (most readers book flights via airlines or Google Flights), but worth having in posts where the flight is genuinely part of the journey story.
For me, the hotel guides, itineraries and those linking to tours and transfers are the best converting posts when it comes to Travelpayouts.
Real Numbers: What I Actually Earn

My average: $400–$800 per month from Travelpayouts across my active programmes. That's not from one single post as it is often over the years. I get high conversions from destination guides, itineraries, where to stay posts that sit on the first page of Google for a lot of Asian countries and Europe posts.
What affects your earnings:
Traffic volume — we all know more readers means more potential to earn. But it is not as straightforward as it is. Intentional content (for example “where to stay in Dubrovnik” or “Istanbul Itinerary”) converts at a completely different rate than inspirational content. Someone reading a destination guide is in booking mode as opposed to someone reading a trip reflection post is not.
Content strategy — Drive helps here but your post types still matter. Planning intent posts are where affiliate income can truly take off.
Commission rates — vary by programme. For me, hotel bookings have been the most consistent as well as experiences. The flights or bus bookings have not been the most valuable but they add up overtime if you have a lot of posts.
What you should know: if you're brand new with under 5,000 monthly readers, don't expect $500 immediately. You need to set up yourself for success by building the main things: write more, install Drive, provide affiliate links and keep an eye in your dashboard. The biggest mistake I made was waiting until I felt "ready" rather than building the system early.
What I Like

One dashboard for everything: The mental load of managing multiple affiliate accounts is very daunting hence I really like that everything is consolidated. It gets addictive as every morning it is the first thing I check now to see how much I have made.
No entry barrier. You can join without a lot of traffic. You can set it up early and start monetising as you grow.
The referral programme structure. The tiered milestone system means you earn multiple times per referral, not just a one-off. And your referral earns too, which makes it feel worth sharing rather than just self-serving.
Support. Their team replies within one business day. I also have a manager who is guiding me through what hotel deals and destinations are trending. This is huge and it helps me boost my income potential.
What I Don't Love
Reporting has a lag you need to mentally account for. The dashboard gives you the essentials programme, date, conversion, Sub ID but potential earnings shown can drop when cancelled bookings get processed. It's not a big problem, it's just how travel affiliate tracking works (people cancel trips, hotels, tours). Nothing to stress about, just don't treat the number you see today as the number you'll get paid. And if anything looks off or you have questions, the Travelpayouts support team is genuinely responsive — you can talk to them and get support within 24 hours.
In-app purchases don't track. If your audience books via an app rather than the mobile website, that commission won't be captured. Send people to the website version when you can.
Some lesser-known brands in the directory. For flight and accommodation options your audience hasn't heard of, conversion will be lower. Stick to brands people already trust.
So Is It Still Worth Signing Up for Travelpayouts?

Yes, 100%. I wouldn’t be travelling the world right now (as I type this from Italy with a tourism board) if it wasn’t for this passive setup.
